Poles apart but sharing one goal..
The recent collaboration between a Formula One race team and hospital in Wales to use pitstop techniques to help with the resuscitation of newborn babies, is a great example of completely different work practices with similar time pressures, coming together to share experiences, best-practice and focus on achieving a highly positive outcome.
What particularly caught my attention was the recognition that effective communication is crucial to the success of this approach. This includes having team members on hand with complimentary skills, everyone knowing their role and contributing to achieving the overall outcome and communicating throughout the process in a time-effective way.
While this performance approach is already an accepted way of working to a number of organisations (including my former employer, National Grid) it is always exciting to see how diverse organisations can work collaboratively and achieve so much more - with communication at the heart of this process.
